AUSTRALIA’S POST 2020 TARGETS

download (1)Australia’s 2030 target is a strong, responsible and achievable contribution to global climate action.

We have a proven track record of meeting our climate targets.  We met our first Kyoto target and are on track to meet our 2020 target.

The Chair of the Climate Change Authority, Mr Bernie Fraser, released a statement on 14 August noting that China’s emissions would increase by 72 to 96 per cent above 2005 levels by 2030.

The Australian Government disputes these figures.

China’s 2030 target will allow emissions to increase by around 150 per cent from 2005 levels when calculated on China’s national currency.

The Climate Change Authority has also extrapolated figures for a possible United States 2030 target based on its 2025 figure.

The United States has announced an emissions reduction target of 26-28 per cent below 2005 levels by 2025.  The United States does not have a 2030 target.
