Ashley-Kate was born in Tasmania on 20 November 1991.She lives in Brisbane, Queensland. Ashley started swimming in 1999 at the age of 8, with the Scarborough Sharks in Queensland. Overcoming her initial fear of water,she joined the squad training at Rochedale and Runcorn primary schools.
Ashley moved on to join Special Olympics in mid-2011. Under the skilful coach Craig Tobin, Ashley was also invited to join Dunlop Park Swimming Club in 2012. Ashley’s form stroke is butterfly and regularly competes in long and short course competitions around the World. Ashley trains 5 days a week and additional 2 in Gym. To her achievement is the fact that Ashley has been swimming competitively for close to 5 years.
Ashley was selected to represent Australia in the 7th World Downs Syndrome Championships in Morelia, Mexico in 2014.
Ashley was selected to swim for Australia in the 8th world Down Syndrome Games in Florence Italy in 2016.
Ashley works Monday to Wednesday at HELP industries, Acacia Ridge. She enjoys trampolining and swimming. In her spare time, Ashley listens to music and enjoys movies and travelling with her mother. Ashley has a wide circle of friends, however swimming is the best activity she loves. “It’s fun” she says.
