….And the Award for Mr Melbourne 2017 goes to Akshay Taneja

In one of the most glamourous beauty pageants in Australia, celebrity judge Sushmita Sen (Bollywood star and former Miss Universe) crowned Miss/Mrs/Mr Melbourne and Miss/Mrs/MrAustralasia in a glittering grand finale event on 15 October, 2017 at Atlantic Peninsula, Docklands Melbourne, organised by Simran Sethi and Gagan Kaur of Limelite Nights.

Thirty-four amazing contestants participated in the Australia MMG Glamorous 2017 pageant, where Akshay Taneja was crowned as Mr Melbourne. The grand finale saw three rounds in which the participants attired in traditional Indian dresses, casual and formal wear. Each contestant was asked to introduce themselves and then asked a question from a pool of questions.In leading up to the finale, a talent round was also held a few days earlier showcasing the talent of each contestant.Akshay surprised everyone by showcasing his natural talent as he entered the contest at a very late stage. A self-taught Indian dhol player, he plays in many community events to enthralled audiences.

However, it is not just about his physical attributes or Dhol-playing acumen, Akshay has also always excelled in his studies and shown tremendous leadership qualities during his school years by winning the prestigious Aston Shield for Academic Excellence and Citizenship, which was awarded by the local Federal Member of Aston Mr Alan Tudge. He also featured in his senior school magazine as a VCE high achiever.

Currently, he is a third year student of Monash University pursuing a double degree in Commerce and Economics with a triple major.

Simultaneously, he is also juggling two part-time jobs and has shown his ability to go above and beyond his duty in customer service. He is interested in fitness, travel and fashion which is why he works for an upmarket clothing store and is a brand ambassador for a clothing company.

Akshay aspires to be an investment banker and has strong inclination towards philanthropic causes. He has been supporting the Good Friday Appeal over a number of years.

His philosophy towards life: “I never Lose, I either Win or I Learn!” reflects a very positive attitude towards his future endeavours. Finally, here quests everyone to “watch this space as there is more to come.” Undoubtedly, a great effort from Akshay that demonstrates the incredible amount of effort and commitment it takes to become Mr Melbourne!
