And now, world’s first store for smart government apps

17Dubai, March 28 (IANS/WAM) As technology helps smart services become part of one’s life, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) government has launched what it called the world’s first store for smart government applications on Android and iOS platforms.

The store features over 100 smart applications developed by the UAE’s local and federal agencies to provide services to about 700 customers in a single location.

Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum was briefed about the distinctive features and services of the new shop in the next period and steps for complementing transformation to the smart government by mid-2015 according to the strategic plan announced during a recent government summit.

Sheikh Mohammed stressed during the launch of the new store Thursday that “the aim is to make smart services part of the daily life for all population, and more accessible and direct”.

“The more services are smart, the happier people become,” he said calling for an increasing a number of the smart services in the new store and encouraging people to reach them, as well as continuing coordination between the federal and local agencies to achieve full transition towards the smart government.

The event was attended by Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Gargawi, minister for cabinet affairs and chairman of the Higher Committee for Smart Government, Reem Ibrahim Al Hashimi, minister of state, Mohammed Al Qamzi, chairman of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority and the team behind the project.

The new project was launched in partnership and coordination with Google and Apple to ensure provision of better government services through the new store.

It is characterised with reliability, security, maintenance of government transactions’ data for individuals and businesses, as well as enhancing of the reliability of all applications in the store to absorb all future upgrades and expansions in services.
