Plans for the biggest revitalisation of Sydney Olympic Park in its history were released today with the precinct overhaul set to provide homes for 23,500 residents, businesses, new transport links, parklands and retail.

Sports Minister Stuart Ayres and Planning Minister Rob Stokes today unveiled the Sydney Olympic Park Masterplan 2030 which combines the best of world class sporting and entertainment infrastructure with new homes, jobs and parklands.

“Sydney is undoubtedly the best city in the world and now the NSW Government has unlocked the future vision of one of our most treasured precincts,” Mr Ayres said.

“Sydney Olympic Park will be buzzing with world-class sporting events, concerts and entertainment, amid lively streets bustling with shops, cafes, with extensive parks, open space and shared pathways for cycling and walking,” Mr Ayres said.

Planning Minister Rob Stokes said the Olympic Park precinct – an industrial wasteland before the Olympics – is a testament to the dynamic changes that Sydney has experienced and that will continue through urbanisation.

“This draft plan identifies how we could transform the area into a vibrant town centre where residents, workers and visitors can enjoy some of the best that Sydney has to offer,” Mr Stokes said.

“This will guarantee a future for Sydney Olympic Park as a thriving, sustainable seven-day a week destination,” Mr Stokes said.

Sydney Olympic Park 2030 will provide world class facilities for up to:

· 23,500 residents (nearly 22,000 more than today)
· 10,700 homes (nearly 9,900 more than today)
· 34,000 jobs (16,500 more jobs than today)

The Department of Education investigating the potential for a new high school in the area and NSW roads and transport authorities will continue to progress road and transport network links including the Parramatta Light Rail.
